Fujian Medical University
Fujian Medical University (FMU), located in Fuzhou, the capital city of Fujian Province, serves as a center for teaching, research, treatment, and prevention, and provides other social services. Currently FMU has two campuses in Shangjie and Taijiang, with a total land area of about 87 hectares and a building area of 379,000 square meters.
At present, the university comprises 19 schools and departments, which offer 23 undergraduate programs, 22 doctorate programs, 59 master programs, and 2 authorized master degree specialties. In addition to its extensive academic programs, the University has established an efficient clinical teaching and practice network, composed of 1 stomatological hospital, 26 clinical teaching hospitals and 10 affiliated hospitals, of which 9 are ranked among the first-rank hospitals. In 2003 it was designated by Fujian Provincial Government as the university for key construction and development. In the same year, it passed the evaluation for undergraduate education organized by the Ministry of Education.
Currently, FMU has a total number of more than 20,000 full-time students, including approximately 2,000 postgraduates, and 10,000 undergraduates. It is also entitled to recruit students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and students from foreign countries for its undergraduate programs.
There is a total number of 5,398 faculty, staff members and medical personnel in the University. Of the 835 full-time teachers, 58% have possessed master's degrees, and 55.1% the title of associate professor or full professor.
Also FMU attached great importance to academic research. It hosts 1 post-doctor clinical research center, 65 research institutions, 2 provincial "Project 211" key disciplines, 13 provincial key disciplines, 8 disciplines of prior development designated by Fujian Provincial Department of Science and Technology, 6 key disciplines at school level, 6 provincial key medical specialties, 5 provincial leading specialties with medical characteristics and 3 key laboratories designated by Fujian Province, which have undertaken great scientific tasks, and made remarkable achievements. Since 2001, more than 100 scientific research programs have been rewarded, over 5,500 papers published, with 86 of them recorded in SCI, and 45 academic works issued as well. The University Library, as the main medical library of Fujian province, holds an area of 25,233 square meters and a collection of 1, 53 million volumes.
The University has developed collaborative relationships for scientific research and talents training with some universities and medical research institutes from the United States, Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Australia, and Canada and so on. In the past 5 years, more than 160 groups, as well as 700 people from the United States, Japan, etc. have visited the University, given lectures and carried out other academic activities. Over 20 overseas alumni have taken posts in colleges, departments or research institutes of FMU, with 110 experts and alumni engaged as its guest professors.

Looking forward to its future, with the motto of "diligence, preciseness, practicality, and innovation", the University attempts to improve its role as a key provincial medical university by focusing on its undergraduate education, promoting graduate education and other forms of medical education, and coordinating medical science with other disciplines, aims to fulfill its roles as a teaching and research-oriented medical center, a prevention center, and a major base for cultivating medical talents on the west coast of the Taiwan straits, and endeavors to rank itself among top medical universities.
Fujian Medical University (FJMU) was founded in 1937. With the mission of creating and nurturing a diverse community of elites who are "diligent, prudent, truth-seeking and innovative", for over 70 years, it has developed an integral education system offering bachelor's, master's and doctor's degree programs. In 2003, FJMU was approved by Fujian Provincial People's Government as one of the key universities for priority development. Now, it consists of Shangjie campus and Taijiang campus，covering an area of approximately 87 hectares with a floor space of 400,000 square meters.
FJMU currently provides 25 bachelor programs, including Clinical Medicine (7-Year Program and 5-Year Program), Stomatology, Preventive Medicine, Medical Laboratory Tests and Analysis, Anesthesiology, Medical Imaging, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Utilities Management, Social Work, etc.
At present, in Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Medicine, Clinical Stomatology and Pharmacology, FJMU confers doctoral degrees, as well as master's degrees which also cover Biology, Stomatology, Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Integrative Medicine, Pharmacy, and Social Medicine and Health Care Management.
The University has a full-time enrollment of 12,000 undergraduates, and over 2,200 postgraduate and doctoral students. It has been approved to offer undergraduate programs to students from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and foreign countries. In addition, it has established a multi-disciplinary and multi-level continuing medical education system. Now, FJMU's 477 professors and chief physicians, along with 682 associate professors and associate chief physicians, make part of its faculty members and medical personnel totalling up to 5,638, in which there are 528 master's and doctor's supervisors.
Our network of 13 affiliated hospitals (including schools of clinical medicine) and 29 teaching hospitals, affords desirable clinical teaching programs and training opportunities for medical students.
In FJMU, there are 2 research stations that offer postdoctoral fellowships (for Clinical Medicine and Basic Medical Sciences), 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 7 key laboratories & research centers jointly supported by the Ministry of Education and Fujian Province, 12 provincial key disciplines, 5 key laboratories of Fujian, and 19 provincial scientific research institutes. The University publishes several academic periodicals, entitled Journal of Fujian Medical University (Medical Science Edition), Journal of Fujian Medical University (Social Science Edition), Chinese Journal of Hypertension, and Chinese Journal of Cardiovascular Rehabilitation.
Today, as a medical center in the Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone, the University is fully committed to her mission to cultivate medical minds, conduct scientific research and development, explore disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention, and to provide health care and social service.
Fujian Medical University consist of two main campus, covering over 876,710 square meters. Currently, the University consists of 17 college and departments, 22 undergraduate majors (aspects), 22 doctor-degree locations and 59 master-degree locations. It was conferred the right to recruit Taiwanese students by itself and the students from foreign countries, Hong Kong and Macao. There are more than 1600 postgraduates, 9300 undergraduates and 8700 vocational students. The school was affirmed as the key constructive university by Fujian Provincial Government and passed through the teaching evaluation of undergraduate education with good achievements in 2003.

MBBS Degree: upon graduation, students need to pass the HSK 3 to get the diploma.
On completing the requirements of the teaching program and passing the graduation examinations successfully, international medical undergraduates will be granted a graduation certificate and conferred a medical degree by the host institution, if they meet the degree regulations of the host institution. The English copy of the degree will state MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery).
Note: The course requires students to pay tuition or admission deposit before issuing admission package.
Internship and Career
The internship will be arranged by the university. It lasts for one year (at least 48 weeks) and the location and tuition fee during the internship period are to be determined.
The amount of hospitals under the control of FJMU is 53, of which 4 are directly affiliated hospitals, 9 are non-directly affiliated hospitals, 29 are teaching hospitals and 11 are training hospitals. These hospitals form a steady network of teaching bases for clinical teaching and internship.
After obtaining MBBS Degree, the graduates can apply to take the medical licensing examination in the medical council in order to get registered and practice medicine. According to the regulations in different countries, the students may need to do the degree accreditation first. A MBBS degree holder can find jobs in government as well as private hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities. General entry requirement
Non-Chinese nationals in good health condition, which accords with the Health Standard for International Students stipulated by the China Education Department.
Normally age between 18 to 30 years old.
Get Secondary high school graduate certificate or the equivalent (e.g. A-level, successful completion of Year 12, etc.) and good academic record.
