Guangzhou Medical University
Guangzhou Medical University (GMU)，formerly known as Guangzhou Medical College, founded in 1958，is a medical institution which offers a full range of programmes at undergraduate and graduate levels. GMU has two main campuses. The Yuexiu campus is located in the downtown centre of Guangzhou City, near Liuhua Lake Park and Yuexiu Mountain. The Panyu Campus, is a new 247 acre campus, situated in Panyu District of Guangzhou City near Pearl River, an ideal place for learning and research.
GMU boasts 16 schools: School of Basic Sciences, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Health Management, School of Public Health, School of Nursing, Graduate School, School of International Education, School of Dentistry, Kingmed College of Laboratory Medicine, The School of General Practice and Continuing Education, Health Vocational and Technical College, The First Clinical School, Nanshan School, The Second Clinical School, The Third Clinical School, The Fourth Clinical School.
GMU has 8 directly affiliated hospitals and 10 non-directly affiliated hospitals, which specialise in respiratory diseases, neuropathy, cardiovascular diseases, gynecology and obstetrics, cancer, dental care, rehabilitation, minimally invasive surgery, primary care，etc..
Furthermore, GMU boasts 20 research institutes(centres), namely, Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Diseases, The Sino-French Hoffmann Institute ,Guangzhou Institute of Snake Venom, Institute of Neuroscience, Institute for Chemical Carcinogenesis, Cancer Research Institute, Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, Institute of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine, Guangzhou Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Guangzhou Institute of Cardiovascular Disease, Guangzhou Institute of Orthopedics, Urology Institute and Institute of Higher Education.
GMU places great emphasis on attracting talented faculty from home and abroad to develop the University. GMU boasts a strong faculty led by Prof. Zhong Nanshan, a member of Chinese Academy of Engineering. The faculty is comprised of 94 supervisors for PhD candidates, 774 supervisors for master students.
GMU attaches importance to training professionals with innovation and hands-on skills. The University aspires to provide quality undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. In addition to its quality undergraduate programmes, GMU offers excellent M.Sc. programmes and Ph.D programmes. GMU also hosts a postdoctoral research station for clinical medicine. GMU started recruiting international students for the MBBS programme (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) in English in 2010. Today, we have enrolled over 130 international students from India, Nepal, Pakistan, Tanzania, Comoros，Cameroon, Sudan，UK ，Kyrgyz Republic, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Bangladesh. GMU is home to 12,057 full-time students and 21,760 part-time students.

The Ministry of Education, China announced strict measures known as Interim Provisions for Quality Control Standards on Undergraduate Medical Education in English for International Students in China in the year 2007, and since then, it has been publishing the list of medical schools which have are qualified to recruit international MBBS students in English medium. Guangzhou Medical University is one of the 34 medical schools, in the year 2010, which were qualified by MOE to recruit international MBBS students in English medium. GMU strictly follows the regulations of MOE, China, with regard to policies to recruit international MBBS students in English medium, in order to impart quality medical education such as course duration, internship, course curriculum, teachers’qualification, admission criteria, etc.
As per criteria established by MOE, China, course duration for MBBS in English medium is 6 years which includes one year internship in the affiliated hospitals of GMU.
MBBS Degree: On completing the requirements of the teaching program and passing the graduation examinations successfully, international medical undergraduates will be granted a graduation certificate and conferred a medical degree by the GMU, if they meet the degree regulations of the university. The English copy of the degree will state MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery).
After obtaining MBBS Degree, the graduates can apply to take the medical licensing examination in the medical council in order to get registered and practice medicine. According to the regulations in different countries, the students may need to do the degree accreditation first. A MBBS degree holder can find jobs in government as well as private hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities. Except this, one can also start his own clinic or pursue study for master’s degree.
Internship and Career
The internship starts from the last year with duration of 48 weeks. Students need to do the internship in the affiliated hospitals of Guangzhou Medical University.
Before the internship, students need to reach HSK 3. The internship will be taken in the 8 affiliated hospitals of GMU with a total of more than 52,92 beds.
During internship, students can still live in the dormitory.

Arriving in Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport
Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is the main airport of Guangzhou, one of the three busiest air transportation hubs in China. Serving more than 110 air routes from Guangzhou to over 100 domestic and International cities, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport has an average annual passenger flow volume of about 25 million.
International students can conveniently process the ticket-booking issue of over 40 foreign airlines through their offices in Guangzhou. It's advisable for International students to have a general understanding of the terminal building.
Terminal Building Guide
With an area of about 370 thousand square meters, the Terminal Building of the Baiyun Airport is four-storied, formed by the Main Building, Connection Building, terminal concourses and elevated passages. The third floor is the Departures Hall; the second floor is the Arrivals Interlayer; the first floor is the Arrivals Hall; and the minus- one floor leads to the subway station and the parking lot. The Departure Hall on the third floor has eight entrances / exits. Taxis and Airport Shuttle Bus can stop on the doorway of the Departure Hall. Entering the No. 4 Gate of the Departure Hall, you can see a big electronic screen, on which you can see the flight information.
Domestic Departures Hall
There are 6 check-in islands and 144 check-in counters in the Domestic Departures Hall. The services relate to ticket inquiry on international or domestic flights, reservation, ticket issuing, changes of ticket and seat-reconfi- rmation for return flight, designated assistance on check-in, as well as reception of irregular flights, etc.

There are 4 check-in islands and 102 check-in counters in the International Departures Hall.
Domestic Boarding Area
The Domestic Boarding Area is made up of two areas – A and B. The Area A, located in the east of the Terminal Building, is divided into two concourses- East 1 Concourse (for the International flights) and East 2 Concourse (for domestic flights). There are 16 boarding gates in East 1 Concourse together with 15 boarding gates from A17 to A31 in East 2 Concourse. The Area B, situated in the west of the Terminal Building, is made up of West 1 and West 2 concourses. There are 17 boarding gates in West 1 Concourse as well as 13 boarding gates in West 2 Concourse.

How to get to your university from GBIA?
By Express Train
There are six express bus lines (Line1, Line2A, Line2B, Line3, Line4 and Line11) supplying convenient transportation for passengers to and from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport.
By Airport Shuttle Bus
Nine shuttle bus lines (Line5, Line6A, Line6B, Line7A, Line7B, Line8A, Line8B, Line9 and Line10) are running between GBIA and downtown area.
A Guangzhou taxi charges RMB 7 for the first 2.3 kilometers, and RMB 2.6 for succeeding kilometers. Moreover RMB 1 is claimed as the fuel surcharge. It's very convenient to shuttle between the downtown of Guangzhou and the Baiyun Airport. However, it may cost much money. For example, it costs you about RMB 100 from the airport to Guangzhou Railway Station.
Daily Transportation Guide
Guangzhou was the fourth city in Mainland China to have an underground railway system. Currently the underground network is made up of eight lines, covering a total length of 236 km. There are seven subway lines used in Guangzhou at present–Line1, Line2, Line 3, Line 4, Line 5, Line 8 and GuangFo Line, operated by Guangzhou Metro Company. The subway utilizes a stage fare system. The longer the journey the more you pay. At present, the subway has connected most important parts of Guangzhou City, including Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, Guangzhou Railway Station, Guangzhou East Railway Station, Guang- zhou South Railway and Foshan City.
There are more than 500 bus lines opening in Guangzhou City. Eighty percent of the city-buses are equi- pped with air-conditioner. The public bus in Guangzhou charges RMB1 to RMB 2. The only drawback could be the language. The destination and the route directions are all pasted in Chinese language, on the front and at the back of the buses. A foreigner would find it extremely hard to locate the exact route of the bus. For somebody who could understand and read Chinese, a bus transportation ride is probably the best form of communication inside Guangzhou.
