Shandong University is one of the oldest and prestigious universities in China. Shandong University was founded in 1901 and is the second national university established soon after Jingshi University (the Metropolitan University) in the country. Recently, the Ministry of Education approved the university as a “national key comprehensive university”. In 2001, it was listed among the 211 national key construction first-class universities by the Ministry of Education. Situated in Jinan, capital city of Shandong Province, Shandong University covers an area of 3.849 square kilometers.
Shandong University consists of 31 schools/colleges and a graduate school. Courses are offered in 11 main academic disciplines: philosophy, economics, law, literature, history, natural sciences, engineering, management, medicine, education and military. There are 104 undergraduate degree programs, 209 master degree programs, 127 doctoral degree programs, and 15 post-doctorate mobile stations. In addition, there are 7 professional master's degree programs in law, business management, engineering, clinical medicine, public health, dentistry and public administration respectively. The student population totals to about 95,000, of which 40,978 are fulltime students, 10,755 are postgraduate students, and over 1,000 are international students.
Shandong University embraces an abundance of scientific research facilities, a strong teaching staff, and favorable studying environment. At the university, there exist 35 national, provincial, and ministerial key academic disciplines; 2 national key research labs; 20 provincial and ministerial key research labs; a national engineering and technology promotion center; 19 provincial technology research centers; 4 national basic scientific research and personnel development bases; 4 social science key research bases approved by Ministry of Education; and 4 national fundamental science personnel development bases. The university also has a group of reputed scholars known home and abroad, of which 922 are professors. There are 29 academicians (including adjunct academicians) who are members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Three general hospitals, including Qilu Hospital and 12 teaching hospitals are affiliated with the university. Over 175 experimental labs, teaching and research facilities are well-equipped. The university library houses a collection of about 5,600, 000 volumes. The Shandong University has established extensive relationships with its counterparts and the society. The International Office of Shandong University is a university administrative body devoted to promotion of academic linkage between Shandong University and other universities around the world. It aims at developing and expanding international cooperation and exchanges with educational institutions and organizations from other countries. Its responsibilities also include planning of university's internationalization policy and supervising implementation of the various cooperative and exchange programs within the university.

Over the years, Shandong University has established a broad international network for educational cooperation and has signed exchange agreements with over 70 universities from over 50 countries. The university remains active in academic cooperation and exchanges with over 100 educational and research institutions worldwide. Shandong University Medical Program for International Students - the aim of medical program for students to became the qualified physician and surgeon through 6 year training in medical school and hospital. Shandong University MBBS program is taught in English, and all lecturers and professors in this program are specially trained for international students. Shandong University MBBS program started in 2002, and now it has international students from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, English, and the United States etc. The curriculum of this program is based on the British Commonwealth educational system. General Study Program is also available.
School of Medicine Shandong University has 28 institutes of basic medicine and clinical medicine. The school also hosts 3 national key disciplines, 9 provincial key disciplines, 6 key laboratories designated by relevant ministries or by Shandong Province, 2 post-doctoral training programs in basic medicine and clinical medicine, 4 doctoral programs in the first-level disciplines, including biology, basic medicine, clinical medicine, and biomedical engineering, and 29 doctoral programs in the second-level disciplines. These establishments paved the way for a comprehensive system of medical education, at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Accommodation and Living Facilities
In 1994, the College of International Education of Shandong University was established. It is a comprehensive educational institution mainly responsible for the admission, teaching, management of and service for the international students. The college also enrolls domestic students for studies in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics for master’s degree, and students for studies in Education (second language teaching) for dual bachelor’s degree. With many talented and experienced teachers and fine teaching facilities, it also undertakes such programs as training Confucius Institute and Chinese language teachers for overseas schools and institutions. The International Students’ Complex on East Campus locates on the East Campus and west campus, which has sports ground, gymnasium, a café, a shop, public kitchens, a laundry room, public washrooms, shower rooms, and a boiler room where boiled water is available. Single-bad and double-bad rooms are available in the International Students’ Complex, which are furnished with air-conditioner, heat, telephone, and TV Internet socket, some rooms have attached bathrooms. The accommodation fee varies from RMB35~75 per day per room. Students can apply to live outside campus as well.
Students are expected to live in the International Students Dormitory. Every room is equipped with central heating facilities and a telephone set. Rooms have private shower bath and toilet; all rooms are installed with air-conditioners. E-mail terminal, public kitchens and washing machines are also accessible to students in the dormitory
From Jinan Airport
The students can take the Bus No.309 to the terminus (Hongjialou), which is the old campus of Shandong University. Then they can take Bus No.1 to get off at the North Road of SHU, where the new campus is located.
From the Railway Station
The students can take Bus No.18 to Ganshiqiao, and then change K52 to the terminus.
